The digital history project Electing the House of Representatives, 1840-2016, launched in mid-October, 2018. Tanvi Misra wrote a feature on the project, calling it “deliciously wonky.”

EXCERPT: Congress is a coequal branch of government and can either amplify or undermine the executive branch’s ambitions,”said Virginia Tech history professor LaDale Winling. “Understanding [its past], geographically and electorally, can help historians and the public think about the contested and conflicted nature of governing in the United States. It can also help us look with a new lens at the American public.”
